Reduce Wrinkles Without Surgery or Downtime!

Pelleve-Naturally-YouIs there a way to reduce wrinkles on the face or neck without injections or downtime?

Yes! Pellevé® is a wrinkle reduction treatment that uses radiofrequency technology to heat the deep layers of the skin, which helps stimulate the natural regeneration of your own collagen without affecting the surface of the skin. This new collagen production in the dermal layer helps to soften lines and wrinkles and tighten the skin.

What can Pellevé be used for?

Pellevé can treat wrinklesskin laxityjowls and the neck. It is particularly beneficial for facial areas that are otherwise hard to treat, such as bags and dark circles under the eyes and ageing lipstick lines. Pellevé benefits the neck as well – reducing crepey skin and tightening what many refer to as their “turkey waddle.”

Will it hurt?

No! This procedure is virtually painless with most patients reporting it feels like a hot stone massage.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically a series of 3-4 treatments about one month apart is recommended with touch-ups about twice a year for optimal results.

When can I resume normal activities after treatment?

There is no downtime with Pellevé and patients can apply make-up and return to normal activities immediately. Your skin may appear slightly pink for about ½ an hour.

When will I see results?

Most patients see temporary results for about 24 hours after treatment due to the plumping of the skin from the elevation of skin temperature. However, the process of regenerating collagen takes time, and therefore results will continue to improve over several months. The results are gradual as the collagen works under the skin.

Can I combine Pellevé with other treatments?

For deep lines and wrinkles Pellevé can be combined with dermal fillers. After a few treatments with Pellevé many patients need less filler to achieve the results they desire.

How do I get started at ESCC?

A complimentary consultation with the nurse at Enhanced Skin Care Center will help you determine how Pellevé will benefit you – as a replacement for fillers or in combination.

The treatment alternates a warm sensation with a cooling period that is generally well tolerated by patients.

Can I go back to work after treatment?

Yes! There is no downtime with SculpSure. Patients are able to return to work or resume normal activity immediately after treatment.

When will I see results?

What is Dysport®?

Dysport-photo1Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyes, on the forehead or at the corners of the eyes. A competitor to BOTOX®, Dysport utilizes the same type of active ingredient to reduce the muscle activity, temporarily preventing the contraction of the muscles causing frown lines.

Is it safe?

Yes! Dysport is approved for aesthetic purposes in 36 countries and has been used clinically for 25 years.

How long does it take for the injection and how long does it last?

Typically five tiny injections between and over the eyebrows, this treatment takes about 10 -15 minutes with no downtime. It is easy to do during a lunch break! The individual begins to see improvement in about three days and results last approximately four months.

What is the difference between BOTOX and Dysport?

Typically Dysport begins to take effect in 2 to 3 days; BOTOX typically takes effect in about 5 to 7 days. Many people report Dysport lasts slightly longer than BOTOX. Most patients find that they save money with Dysport because the cost is less and the Dysport rewards program ASPIREREWARDS.COM offers savings for each treatment.

To find out more about Dysport and how it may benefit you, schedule an appointment with the nurse at Enhanced Skin Care Center for your complimentary consultation.

Meet Your Injector – A Little Q&A with Jane Kramar MD

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHow did Dr. Kramar get started at ESCC?

A licensed Family Practice Physician, Jane Kramar expanded her medical practice to include cosmetic procedures in 2005. Dr. Kramar had extensive training in the injections of dermal filler and BOTOX® before opening Enhanced Skin Care Center in February of 2006.

How does Dr. Kramar stay up to date in the field?

Since opening ESCC,  Dr. Kramar has attended a minimum of two training seminars per year to learn the latest in injection techniques as well as gathering information on the newest products and how they can perform best for her patients.

How many injections has she done?

Over 13 years Dr. Kramar has injected fillers such as Restylane®, JuveDerm® and Voluma® on hundreds of patients per year. The number of patients injected with BOTOX and Dysport® is numbered in the thousands.

Why should I choose Dr. Kramar and ESCC?

Injecting filler into the lips, cheeks, lines around the mouth, and BOTOX or Dysport in the upper face to give the individual a natural look is an art and the experience of the injector dictates those results. Beware of the injector that does house parties or comes to a salon occasionally to inject. Often these injectors are less experienced and see far fewer patients so the chances of less than desirable results rise. In the unlikely event a complication should arise during a procedure, an experienced physician, like Dr. Kramar will attend to it in a properly and timely mannerDr. Kramar takes the time to get to know her patients and understand the type of results they are looking for. She offers guidance to help the individual obtain a fresh, natural appearance never looking over done or unnatural.

How do I get started at ESCC?

Contact us through our website or call us at 734.946.8800 to set up a complimentary consultation. We will meet with you to determine your the right course of treatment for you. We carefully consider your skin type, your lifestyle, and your budget.

Microneedling – A Hot Topic in Skin Care

eclipse-micropenMicroneedling is one of the hottest topics in skin care today – and for good reason…
is a clinically proven treatment that, when executed correctly, produces collagen and elastin in aging skin. This is known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), a process in which microneedles puncture the skin to stimulate and manipulate the body’s natural healing properties.

Two Layers of Skin
Skin is composed of two primary layers: the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the outermost protective layer. The dermis – commonly known as the “true skin” – is the most important layer since it is home to the essential functioning components of the skin. This layer is made up of fibroblasts, which are primarily responsible for producing collagen and elastin.

Collagen makes up 70% of the dermis and plays a vital role in the cohesion, elasticity and regeneration of skin. At the average age of 35, almost half of the collagen that we were born with is lost. As a result, degenerative skin changes can become visible. As the skin ages, it begins to lose its firmness and elasticity, but it CAN be rejuvenated!

Rejuvenate with Micro Needling
During the process of microneedling, small micro-channels are created in the skin to activate the body’s natural healing response. During the regeneration cycle, the body intensifies the release of growth factors within the deeper layers of the skin. As a result, collagen and elastin production is accelerated to heal the wound, which builds new layers of healthy skin cells.**

At ESCC we use the Eclipse MicroPen and recommend a series of three treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. Downtime is minimal – most experience pink/redness to the skin on the day of treatment – returning to normal within 24-48 hours. This treatment is fine to do during the summer months with the daily use of good sunscreen!

Winter is the Perfect Time for a Chemical Peel

beautiful_SkinAlthough many of us are get tired of the cold, winter is actually the best time of the year to treat some of our most annoying skin-related issues. Chemical peels are no exception and are very effective when done on skin that is not tanned or recently been exposed to the sun.

The hallmark to great looking skin is a regimen that promotes the exfoliation (shedding) of dead skin cells and the regeneration (growth) of collagen and new skin cells. Think about it…if you do nothing to get rid of old dead skin cells they simply lie on your face and give your skin a dull or ashy appearance. Your body has no encouragement to manufacture fresh new skin cells to replace the old ones. And because your skin is not being stimulated, the production of collagen under the skin slows down.

Chemical peels have both cosmetic and medical benefits. They optimize skin health by encouraging new cell growth and are beneficial for all skin types, colors, and ages.

Cosmetically, the exfoliation from the peel improves pore size, hyperpigmentation from sun, old acne lesions, and melasma, as well as fine lines. Medically, a chemical peel can improve acne, benign keratoses and actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous lesions). Peels achieve these results by removing damaged outer layers of the skin allowing a fresh, new layer of skin to naturally emerge.

How do chemical peels achieve these amazing results?

Chemical peels use a combination of acids of varying degrees of strength to chemically shed dead skin cells.  Not all peels involve actual “peeling” of the skin or downtime from work or activities. Because of the nature of the chemicals, peels are especially helpful for acne prone skin and skin that is discolored due to sun damage or old acne lesions.

Because the epidermis heals in just a few days you will notice improved appearance of the skin, more even skin color, smoother texture and a healthier glow. In addition there will be decreased fine lines, especially around the eyes and mouth, improvement of mild scarring and acne, and a reduction of skin discoloration such as sun spots and melasma.

Incorporating a peel into a good skin care regimen will boost the effectiveness of the products and prolong the results of the peel.

Your skin will look and feel much better after you begin an exfoliation and product regimen.  For optimal results we recommend chemical peels being done in a series of three treatments spaced about 3-4 weeks apart. After completion of the series, a periodic maintenance program can be established. Maintaining the regimen is important so as not to return to dull, ashy skin. We also recommend a peel be followed by TNS Recovery Complex (a potent solution containing human growth factors that help enhance skin tone and texture), as well as a good moisturizer and sunscreen.

Summertime Skincare Do’s and Don’ts

Sunny skies, outdoor fun, and warm weather all remind us that the lazy days of summer are here. But don’t get lazy when it comes to taking care of your skin!

Here is a list of summertime skin care Do’s and Don’ts to help you keep your skin in shape this summer:

Do: Wear sunscreen everyday even if you don’t think you will be outdoors much. Always apply your sunscreen as the last product before make-up so it is not diluted.

Do: Look for sunscreen with UVA/UVB protection and a SPF of at least 30.

SPF 30 blocks approximately 97% of all incoming UVB rays. No FDA-approved standard exists yet for UVA protection in the US, even though UVA penetrates more deeply into the skin than UVB.  Broad spectrum sunscreens combine UVB and UVA absorbing chemicals and/or physical blockers and give the most protection.

Do: Wear water-resistant sunscreen if you are participating in activities that make you sweat or if you are in the water.

Do: See your doctor for to get an annual skin-cancer screening, especially if you notice any suspicious lesions on your body.

Do: Use a quality facial cleanser to rid your skin of the sweat and oil that warmer weather brings.

Do: Schedule a facial to clean out your pores and re-hydrate skin exposed to pool water and outdoor elements.

Don’t: spend too much time outdoors between the hours of 10am-4pm when the sun it at its strongest.  If you must – wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your face!

Don’t: use harsh scrubs on your face that will strip oils and irritate your skin. SkinMedica makes a gentle Skin Polisher that exfoliates without irritation.

Don’t: forget to continue a good skin care regimen while vacationing or staying up late!  Changes in routine can cause breakouts or flare-ups in rosacea.

Don’t: forget that summer is a great time to treat those facial lines and wrinkles – you will look rested and relaxed after a treatment of Botox® or Dysport.

Dermal Fillers…what are they and what do they do?

In recent months there has been a lot of press about “dermal fillers”, specifically Restylane and Juvederm. Many people are confused about what dermal fillers are and what they do. Read on for answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about dermal fillers.

What is Restylane and Juvederm?

Restylane and Juvederm are brand names of substances commonly referred to by doctors as dermal fillers. Both of these products are safe and natural fillers made up of a non-animal based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the body.

What can fillers do?

Fillers are used to restore volume and fullness to the skin. They are best used to fill in lines around the nose (nasolabial folds), around the lips, and areas at the corners of the lips (marionette lines). Fillers are also used to restore fullness to the lips and areas in the face like cheeks and hollows under the eyes.

Are fillers safe?

Yes. Fillers have been used for more than 20 years worldwide. Since the hyaluronic acid is fully compatible with your bodily fluids there is virtually no risk of allergic reactions and no allergy testing is required.

What is the procedure like?

First you will consult with the doctor about the specific areas in which you would like volume restored. Once the area(s) have been determined, a topical numbing cream is applied to your skin for about 20-30 minutes prior to the procedure to minimize any discomfort from the injection. The product is then injected into the desired areas. Usually the entire procedure takes less than an hour and a half (including the numbing time.)

Are there any side effects?

This can vary by the individual. After the treatment you may have some redness or swelling. This will normally last less than a week. You also may experience some bruising at the injection sight – which can typically be concealed with cover-up. We do have pre-procedure instructions that can help minimize swelling and bruising as well as a natural supplement called Arnica Montana for those who tend to bruise more easily. We always advise people to schedule their procedure at least 2-3 weeks before a special event like a wedding, to ensure no visible signs of the procedure.

How long does the filler last?

Fillers can last 6 to 12 months depending upon the individual. The exception to this is when used around the lips. Because we use our lips more often through eating, talking, etc. the product is more quickly metabolized by the body and may last closer to 6 months. Recently Restylane has been granted FDA approval for the duration of up to 18 months if a patient comes in for an enhancement between 6 and 9 months. We have found that patients who return within 6 to 9 months for a touch-up are able to sustain their results for well over a year.

What is the cost of the procedure?

The product is priced per syringe, and the cost of the procedure depends upon how many syringes needed to make your desired correction. The more volume you want restored, the more syringes needed. Please note that all syringes don’t always have to be done in one visit. Often a patient will have some filler injected at one visit and then return in a few weeks to have additional filler placed in areas where she/he wants more volume. This layering process does not detract from the final result and can help to make the procedure more manageable financially. Because it is difficult to accurately quote a cost without seeing the patient first, we suggest scheduling a complimentary consultation to accurately determine a treatment plan for you.

I am considering the procedure. What should I do?

Please call our office to set up a complimentary consultation with our nurse. She will answer any questions you may have, give you an accurate price for the procedure, and provide pre-treatment instructions.

Dermal fillers are a safe, effective way to immediately improve lines and wrinkles on the face with little or no downtime. In comparison with other cosmetic procedures this is an affordable option to enhance your appearance.

If you have additional questions or would like to schedule your complimentary consultation to see if dermal fillers are right for you, please contact us today by calling 734.946.8800 or visiting

Microdermabrasion with HydroPlus – the Key to Healthy, Beautiful Skin

As we head into the winter season, many of us will be look in the mirror and realize our skin no longer has that “healthy glow”  but instead looks dull and dry.

What’s the best way to improve skin texture and smoothness?

In a word…exfoliation. Skin exfoliation is a natural process associated with the constant regeneration of the cell of our epidermis.  Skin cells generate in the deepest layer of the epidermis and move toward the surface. Old skin cells slough off and new skin cells replace the old. This natural process slows down as we age – teens renew their skin cells every 21-28 days, middle age adults every 28 to 40 days, and those over 50 can take up to 50 days to renew their cells.

The best way to improve skin texture and smoothness is to speed up this cycle, accelerating the shedding of dead skin cells, thereby encouraging the replacement of new skin cells. One great way to achieve this is through mechanical exfoliation, or microdermabrasion.

Mechanical exfoliation involves physically sloughing off dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion encourages the production of new skin cells, stimulates collagen growth under the skin, and removes debris from the pores helping to decrease pore size.  During this painless process a wand with a tip of finely crushed diamonds mixed with stainless steel is passed over your skin.  The wand is attached to suction, which helps keep the wand close to the skin and sucks the roughed up dead skin cells away.  The result is a glowing, smooth complexion.  There is no downtime following the procedure (your skin may appear a little pink for about an hour afterwards) and it may be repeated every four weeks as desired.

HydroPlus treatment for your face is an innovative treatment that combines the exfoliation of our Diamondtome Microdermabrasion with the infusion of a serum to improve skin imperfections. We have a variety of Serum options, including Even Tone Serum, Deep Hydrating Serum and Acne Serum. These serums are designed for optimum skin penetration after a microdermabrasion treatment, creating an effective way to improve and enhance your skin.

It is important to remember that your skin needs constant maintenance to look its best.  Because your skin is a living, changing organ, you must tend to it frequently or it will quickly revert back to looking dull and lifeless.

Let us help you choose a skincare regimen that is best for you. Not only will you look better, you will feel better with healthy glowing skin!

Winter – the Perfect Time for Hair Removal!

Tired of shaving? Embarrassed about the shadow of hair even after you’ve shaved?
Winter is the perfect time to change things for the better! Intense pulsed light hair removal is a safe, painless and effective way to get rid of unwanted hair.

How does Intense Pulsed Light work?
Our system uses specialized hand pieces which filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments, such as hair reduction. The hand piece emits pulsed light into the hair follicle. The light is absorbed in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.

What areas of the body can I get treated?
Any areas of the body, except directly around the eyes, can be safely treated.

What are the treatments like? Is it painful?
A mild sensation is felt; no numbing of the skin is required. The hand piece will be moved over the treatment area, pulsing light every few seconds. The cooled treatment-head helps soothe and protect your skin while pulsed light and energy penetrates the skin to destroy the active hair follicles.

How many treatments are necessary?
Because hair follicles grow and regrow in a cycle and growing follicles are most susceptible to treatment, multiple sessions are required to achieve full effectiveness.  However, significant hair reduction is often noticed after one or two treatments.  6 -8 treatments spaced 2 -10 weeks apart, depending on the area, is recommended to ensure hair removal.

What else do I need to know?
All skin types can be treated safely with our technology.  It is recommended that the skin not be tanned which is why winter is a great time to begin treatment.  Also – hair does not have to be left on the skin to be removed – shaving or clipping of hair can be done as often as desired.  No waxing, plucking or depilatories can be used for 2-3 weeks before treatment or during treatment.

Are treatments for women only?
Absolutely not!!  Many men are self conscious of excess hair on their backs, or suffer from painful red bumps after shaving their necks.  Hair removal is the perfect solution for these and other problems.  Many men have been very satisfied with our discreet atmosphere and professional service.
