The staff at ESCC wishes everyone a very happy and healthy New Year!
Although many of us are already tired of the cold, winter is actually the best time of year to treat some of our most annoying skin-related issues.
Problems such as unwanted hair, brown pigment on the skin (age spots) and redness due to broken capillaries or rosacea are treated most effectively with a light-based treatment called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL).
IPL works beneath the skin by shooting a broad spectrum of light energy through the epidermis, where it is attracted to – and then breaks up – brown pigment and redness. Because this occurs at a microscopic level and in a controlled manner there is NO damage to the skin and downtime is minimal.
IPL delivers a subtle but significant improvement in the skin's appearance. Sunspots are very responsive to two or three IPL treatments and redness is dramatically improved in most people in three treatments. IPL is also an effective way to treat sunspots on the hands which are one of the biggest age revealers.
Unwanted hair is removed using IPL with a different hand piece and a different level of energy. It is a very effective way of eliminating about 90% of brown or black hair. Hair that is removed does not grow back, but because the body is always working to grow new hair there may be minimal new growth that can be treated with occasional follow-up treatments. Because the treatment needs the pigment in the hair to draw the light into the hair follicle, gray hair or very fine blond hair does not respond to the treatment. Any area of the body and any skin color can be treated safely and effectively with NO downtime.
Both of the above treatments are most effective when done on skin that is not tanned or recently been exposed to the sun. This makes winter the best time of year to begin hair removal or IPL treatments of the face, hands or chest. By summer you will have a big jump on hair removal and have your skin looking its best!
